#102 Loretta Lynn – Don’t Come Home a Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind)

Loretta Lynn? She is the one who had a film made about her that I have never seen since I hate country music. Hopefully, Don’t Come Home a Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind) is the only album from her on the list.

The title song sounds like it should come with a hashtag after it: “Don’t Come Home a Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind) #metoo“. Isn’t that sort of like a date rape song? If you are married is it date rape, especially if you did not go on the date?

Lynn’s life reads exactly like the stereotypical hillbilly story that people think about when they think of hillbillies. She was 15 years old when she married and had a child at 16. Her husband was at times abusive, but she stood up to him. Those songs that she wrote were true of her marriage.

I will not waste time talking about how I hear cats being tortured when I listen to country songs. Loretta Lynn is talented as a writer and singer. I would never listen to this again because it hurts my head, but I can see that she was a trailblazer for women. Her songs are about women’s issues. On the plus side, all the songs are extremely short under 3 minutes. The best songs are the title song and “I Really Don’t Want to Know“. 5/10.
