The Stooges have returned with Fun House. It is their second album in their discography and second one to make the list of 1001 Albums… The first album was a 10. Can they achieve it again?
I wonder how I had never listened to The Stooges until I decided to write about the 1001 Albums… I used to listened to the Sex Pistols and a couple other punk bands, but I kind of stopped at some point. Maybe it was with the second or third wave. If you are going to listen to punk, then The Stooges are the band to start with first.
Iggy Pop has the raw vocals. The band has the fire. The Stooges sound close to what you expect from a live band. I feel as though I am at their concert, yet the album is not live. I wish I could have seen them when they were still together and young and all alive. I would never see them now because I cannot think of anything worse than seeing a bunch of grandfathers trying to rock out on stage. Well, maybe being trapped in a mine for 69 days would be worse.
My least favourite song is “L.A. Blues” because it sounds loud and chaotic. It seems to be a waste of space on the album. Maybe they did not have enough songs so they made this one to fill the space.
Iggy Pop is the only remaining member of The Stooges. Fortunately for us their music lives on for the future generations to enjoy and hopefully get ideas to create something new. The Stooges were successful in creating amazing proto-punk music, which spurred many more to follow their lead. 9.5/10.
