#212 The Who – Who’s Next

Who’s Next is the fourth album on the list from The Who. That is three too many, well maybe two too many. I did give one of their albums 7/10. The album cover is strange since they pissed on the building. Supposedly, Pete Townshend was the only one to actually do it.

I must admit “Baba O’Riley” is one of the best songs ever. I love the music. When it starts my heart starts beating more and more. I feel everything getting excited inside of me. I wonder what is happening. Even Roger Daltrey does not sound bad. Townshend is such a creative musician and songwriter. This has to be his best song ever.

I do not feel the rest of the album is as good as the first song. I think it has good music, but as I have stated in a previous post I am not a fan of Daltrey’s voice. “Bargain” is a love song to a god that Townshend was trying to be one with. It was inspired by Indian mystic Meher Baba.

The Song Is Over” is one of the better songs. I think it sounds better before it hits the chorus. Townshend’s vocals bring the sadness into a feeling that is relatable for those who have felt pain, but Daltrey’s chorus is bland.

“Going Mobile” is a lighter moment on the album. It feels like a driving song. Keith Moon‘s drumming is awesome, but he is one of the best.

The biggest surprise is “Behind Blue Eyes“. I had no idea it was one of their songs. I have heard it, but not very much. “Won’t Get Fooled Again” is really good too and I think it is similar in that I think I heard it, but I might have known it was from The Who.

This is probably the best album from The Who, but it might be mostly on the strength of the incredible “Baba O’Riley”. It has a couple of filler songs, but I like the music on most of the album. 8/10.
