Tapestry sounds familiar to me even before I listen to it. It is the second album from Carole King who had been around for a long time writing for other artist.
“I Feel the Earth Move” kind of sucks. It is such an irritating sound to me, especially vocally and lyrically.
“So Far Away” is a sad song. It speaks of the distance of two people in a relationship. That distance can be physical and/or emotional. I know how it feels to be far away form the people I love. I have always been far away.
“It’s Too Late” is a sad song of a relationship at the end. The writer of the song, Toni Stern, must have felt this in her life because the lyrics ring true.
I think most of the problems I have with the album is King’s voice. I am not a huge fan of it. I prefer James Taylor’s version of “You’ve Got A Friend” over King’s. Taylor version has more meaning since males are not great friends.
The only reason I like “Where You Lead” is because of Gilmore Girls. It is one of my top favourite series.
Sometimes the first artist to cover a song is the best and it happens to be the case in the King penned “Will You Love Me Tomorrow?”. The Shirelles gave the song shades and emotions, but King sucks the life out of it in her version of the song. The same exact thing can be said for another King song “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman“. Aretha Franklin owned it.
I think the albums mostly sounds dated. Yes, these albums are all from the past and are dated, but some of them sound very dated by the instrumental arrangements or sounds. I would only listen a few songs again from it. I think some people like Alyssa Milano and Brie Lawson would say the album was not created for me because I am a white male. But I do not care what idiots say to me. The album might not have been created for me because I do not like it, but not because of my race or gender. I know so many people will think I am crazy, but this album is only okay. 6/10.
