#222 Dolly Parton – Coat of Many Colors

Coat of Many Colors is the first album from country, pop iconic singer Dolly Parton. Parton is one of those rare artist who has skipped from country music to pop music successful. She has also enjoyed success in films too. Unlike Taylor Swift who did something similar Parton is endearing and has a great personality. Parton’s songs have been hits for other artists, especially “I Will Always Love You” covered by Whitney Houston. I do now know Parton’s country music, except those songs that have been covered by other artists.

As you may know I hate country music, but Dolly Parton’s voice and music is sort of catchy. I wonder if it is because it’s Dolly and she is such an icon. I think the best songs are “Coat of Many Colors”, “Early Morning Breeze”, “The Way I See You“, “Here I Am”, and “A Better Place to Live”.

Parton is prolific writer. She has written most of her own songs throughout her career. I think she is actually super talented after listening to this album. When she is not doing the hillbilly accent and singing in their dialect, I think she is great. “The Way I See You” is the best example on this album when she is not too countryfied. She sings it beautifully. I cannot believe I am score this so high. 8/10.

  1. Long ago, there was an album put out that had three of the most amazing singers on it. Dolly, Emmylou, and Linda. I played that till I wore the needle out on the phonograph. Me? I loathe country music, but I played that album to exhaustion.
