#226 Led Zeppelin – The Fourth Album

Is it wrong to title Led Zeppelin‘s album The Fourth Album if it is not actually titled anything? This is their fourth album on the list I think. This is the album everyone wants to hear at some point in their youth. We all know the songs (or should I say the song) on this album. It is an iconic album.

All the songs on this album are great, but “Stairway To Heaven” is one of the best songs ever. Everybody that learned to play the guitar back in the day would learn this song. This is the song my mother would listen to over and over to try to figure out the lyrics. I cannot listen to this song without thinking of her sitting there writing these lyrics. She got stuck on this part I think.

“If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow
Don’t be alarmed now
It’s just a spring clean for the May queen”

She spent so much time on this song and none with me. I hate her for this reason. The things I cannot understand kill me each day. My best friend is killing me each day. He just disappeared from my life. I hate bad advice I have taken from friends that have sent me down this wrong life I am heading in. I hate so much now. I used to feel so much love, but I have died. This song is part of me. I love the line “To be a rock and not to roll”. The way Robert Plant carries that note at the end is perfect and beautiful. It makes me sad.

The other song that makes me very sad is “Going To California“. It is so beautiful. Simple. Yet. Complex.

This is a perfect album from Led Zeppelin. This might be their magnum opus. If it is not, then it was at this time in their history until whichever album is their greatest. Every song needs to be devoured by the audience. Just stop reading and go to Spotify and listen for yourself. 10/10.

P.S. I have a friends who knows about this album from a different perspective than I have to offer, My views are tainted by my mother: https://nickcady.org/2017/01/05/all-that-is-gold-does-not-glitter/
