A Nod Is As Good As a Wink… to a Blind Horse is the weirdest title for an album. I guess the Faces were not a normal band. Rod Stewart is in this band and doing his solo work too. I bet that was not stressful. There is another singer Ronnie Lane sharing the duties with him.
Stewart sings on most of the songs. He starts the album with a rocking song “Miss Judy’s Farm“. All the songs with Stewart are great, expect for “Memphis”. I am not a fan of the song, but he sings it well. “Love Lives Here” is a pretty love song, which has a bit of sadness to it.
Ronnie Lane sounds oddly like Bob Dylan. I was not sure how I felt about his vocals until the second listen on “You’re So Rude“. I really like his songs too. I especially like “Debris“, and the way Stewart does the background vocals sound like music magic.
“Stay With Me” is the most popular song. Stewart is singing about a one night stand. It is a sexy song and reminds me of The Rocky Horror Picture Show for some reason.
I think Faces made a great album. It is rock and roll. I think Rod Stewart should have stay with them a little longer. He went soft quickly, but I love his storytelling side too. The music has improved over the 60s. 8.5/10.
