#235 Flamin’ Groovies – Teenage Head

The Flamin’ Groovies are a garage rock band and Teenage Head is their third album. I have never heard of them. This album is a modern take on classic blues and rock ‘n roll. It is in the same vein as The Rolling StonesSticky Fingers which was also released in 1971. They are considered the forerunners of power pop and punk. I do not see the punk part at least in this album. It appears they never had a hit single.

The singer seems like he is trying to sound like Bob Dylan in “City Lights“. It is not a bad impersonation at all. It has an unfortunate twang sound, but it sound good otherwise.

The rest of the album goes from rock and roll to rockabilly to power rock. The songs I like are “Yesterday’s Number” and “Whiskey Woman“. The latter reminds me of Neil Young a bit. I think the album is okay, but for 1001 Albums…perhaps not. 6/10.
