Can’t Buy A Thrill has at least one Steely Dan song I have heard. I do not know much about their music. It does have a different sound than anything previously on the list. That seems to be the challenge in listening to 1001 Albums… you must be able to identify when an album is unique in sound and bringing something new to the table.
I can hear the jazz and latin influence in the first song “Do It Again“. It was a hit song for the band. Yes, it is a band. I thought it was one man’s name.
“Dirty Work” is the catchiest song on the album. There is another hit song which I did not know that I had heard it before. “Reelin’ In the Years” is in their top five biggest hits. I did not realise that they had more than one or two hit songs.
This is a light album for relaxing. The music is good; it is jazz and poppy. Some of the songs have silly lyrics, but I can overlook it if the music is good. 7.6.
