#266 The Temptations – All Directions

The Temptations are back with their second and final album All Directions on the list of 1001 Albums… There are songs on the album that I recognise, but not by The Temptations.

The fink starts off immediately with “Funky Music Sho Nuff Turns Me On“. It is an awesome showcase of musical growth for the talented Temptations. It will move your body.

It is interesting that they say “The niggers are coming” in “Run Charlie Run“. I guess things had not changed in 1972. I wonder when did that word become a derogatory word.

Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone” is the definition of classic. Awesome song, even though it is almost 12 minutes long.

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” is a great song, but it has been done better by Roberta Flack and George Michael.

The album is great and contains classic songs from a classic group. Only songs I did not like was the one I mentioned earlier and “Mother Nature” is not a favourite, but I do not hate it. This album is funky and soulful. Give it a listen. 8.9/10.
