#267 David Bowie – The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is David Bowie‘s fifth studio album and the second on the list of 1001 Albums… This should be enjoyable because I have liked Bowie since I was a young lad. The theme on this album, a bisexual alien rock superstar, called Ziggy Stardust, called Bowie problems with fans. Bowie is a musical and an actor; Ziggy was a character.

Five Years” has been described as one of the greatest opening tracks of an album and it deserves that title. It is a masterpiece. It is deathly gorgeous.

And the greatness of Bowie continues in “Soul Love“. He makes glam rock sound soulful and beautiful.

Of course, there are popular songs on this album. “Ziggy Stardust” and “Suffragette City” are the most known songs and both are great songs, but Ziggy is otherworldly. It is strange that I listened to Bowie so much when I was young kid, but eventually I did not listen to his music. I think he had one album I did not like and I thought his career was over.

I really do not see a need to go through every song because I like all of them. This is a perfect masterpiece from the alien that is David Bowie. He knows how to draw in his audience and take them on a trip through the stars and back to Earth. 10/10.
