#287 Mike Oldfield – Tubular Bells

Tubular Bells from Mike Oldfield is something I have heard, but I have never heard the actual album. I know of it from other artists. It was extremely popular for Oldfield because he made two more and a live version. Talk about overkill.

In 1973, a small film was released and the music was used from this album. The Exorcist caused “Tubular Bells Part l to exploded into popularity. I have never seen the film and I never will. I do not watch horror. I lived it so I rather not watch it. The best thing about this song is the intro, which was used by the 80s band Book of Love for their single “Pretty Boys and Pretty Girls”.

The second song “Tubular Bells Part ll” is a bit better. Both songs are over 20 minutes. Way too long for me.

I think the hype over this album is exaggerated. It is too long and has no point to it. I did not feel like I was on a journey. It is was a bad dead end. 4/10.
