#348 Curtis Mayfield – There’s No Place Like America Today

Curtis Mayfield is back in the list with There’s No Place Like America Today. I did not really care for his Super Fly album. I have a feeling I will not like this one either.

I do like “So in Love” a lot and “Billy Jack” a little and “Blue Monday People” is interesting.

Overall, Mayfield sings in a falsetto that I do not find listenable. His song about “Jesus” is interesting, but it goes nowhere. It is all the same throughout so I did not enjoy the journey, if there was one. The other problem is that the songs are too long.

Mayfield’s music is better than his singing. I can hear who Prince listened to while growing up. He did Mayfield better than Mayfield did. 6/10
