The Stranglers is a band I have never heard of even though they have been consistently making music since the 70s. Rattus Norvegicus is their debut album. We have reached the era of punk rock, but The Stranglers did not make it in the USA as their contemporaries had. It might have had to do with the subject matter of the songs they wrote.
“Sometimes” is about a violent argument between a couple and the girl is getting her face slapped by the male. “Hanging Around” is about some of the characters at their shows. “Peaches” is about women on the beach he is leering at. It is quit sexual in nature. (Get A) Grip (On Yourself) sounds like something that Adam and the Ants used to create their sound.
It is okay, but I think their contemporaries were better. I read they improved over the years so maybe I will check out some of their later music. It is good for a debut punk album. 6/10.
