#390 Meat Loaf – Bat Out of Hell

Meat Loaf‘s Bat Out of Hell is an album I knew of because I heard his songs on MTV. His operatic vocals were also known to me because of his role of Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I have never listened to the whole album until today. It is so strange how I missed out on so many good albums during my childhood and on through my adulthood.

Heaven Can Wait” is the most beautiful song on the album. “All Revved Up with No Place to Go” is probably my least favourite, but it is still a decent song.

The one song that I knew of was “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad“. It is a song that I have lived. I always have to settle for two out of three things. The one thing I cannot receive or find it love. The song is incredible and it has the saddest lyrics ever. When the one you love does not love you back is the worst feeling. I have always felt this way. Nobody has ever loved me.

But there ain’t no way I’m ever gonna love you
Now don’t be sad
‘Cause two out of three ain’t bad
I want you, I need you
But there ain’t no way I’m ever gonna love you

Meat Loaf’s Bat Out of Hell is an example of everything coming together at the right time and place. Singer Meat Loaf (Marvin Lee Aday) had the right vocals, composer Jim Steinman had the extravagant lyrics and producer Todd Rundgren had the knowledge for over-the-top productions. I wonder if he had been thinner and/or better looking would his career have been bigger. 10/10.
