Thin Lizzy‘s Live and Dangerous will be an album that I will probably hate. It is live. I hate live albums. I am not sure why this album made the list. It is a sort of greatest hits, but live. According to Wikipedia: “Various studio overdubs were made to the live recordings during early 1978 in Paris; exactly how much of the album is overdubbed has been a contentious topic since its release.” It seems like a lot has been overdubbed. Most of the songs do not have the live sound of an audience, except for the cheering at the end.
For a so-called live album it is not bad. But is it really live? I have a problem with the inclusion of this album on the list of 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. It is more or less a greatest hits album. I feel like I would have to listen to their studio album to decide if I like them. Lead singer and bassist Phil Lynott seems like he was a good frontman and had a decent voice. The musicianship it great either way. Fun fact: Huey Lewis plays on the harmonica on the song “Baby Drives Me Crazy“.
I really like the song “Still in Love with You”.
I am curious about Thin Lizzy after hearing the album. Maybe I will give their studio albums a listen after I finish this challenge. 6/10.
