The Germs‘ one and only album (GI) is one that was unknown to me. I was surprised to learn that Joan Jett had produced and mixed the album. In a couple years she would become famous with the Blackhearts for their song “I Love Rock ‘n Roll” and many others. I think the reason the Germs are unknown to a lot of people is that the lead singer Darby Crash committed suicide a year after putting out this album.
This is one of those difficult albums to review. I am not sure how I feel about the band. I know this is considered the first hardcore punk album, but I have never really listened to that genre. I like when I can understand the lyrics or at least some of them. I was not able to fully engage with the vocals because he shouts a lot. I think the music was good, but at times it seemed a bit all the same. 7/10.
