The Slits‘ Cut displays the three women on the cover with their breast hanging out. I am not a prude, but I rather if they had not put them on the album cover. I hate when musical artist use their bodies to sell their music. It makes me think they are masking the fact that they are not that talented. Well, let us see if the music is any good. Maybe I will eat flamingo for my statement.
The lead singer Ari Up reminds me of Bjork, except that I like Bjork more because her music has more variety. I like the dub and post-punk combination, but after a few songs I thought I was listening to the same song over and over.
Kurt Cobain listed the song “Typical Girls” in his top 50 favourite of all time. I think it might be the best song on the album. I also like “Instant Hit“.
This album is a bit one note for me. Up’s vocals are more about talking than singing. I do like some of the music. Up was a strange character. She died from cancer because she did not want to cut off her Rasta hair. She did not take care of her children, so Sex Pistols’ lead singer, John Lydon, her stepfather, adopted them. 6.5/10.
