#443 Elvis Costello and the Attractions – Armed Forces

Armed Forces is the second album for Elvis Costello and the Attractions, but it was his third album. The Attractions were his backing band throughout different periods of his career. This album was Costello’s move into new wave music. He is definitely an acquired taste because of his weird vocals.

My favourite songs are “Accidents Will Happen“, “Oliver’s Army“, “Green Shirt”, “Party Girl”, and the American and Canadian pressing included song “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding“.

This albums feel more produced and musically layered. I do not always understand Costello’s vocals because his voice is a bit whiny. I think this is better than his previous albums, but only a bit better. I cannot handle his voice for too long, but in small doses he is great. 8/10.
