Simple Minds fifth studio album New Gold Dream (81–82–83–84) was the beginning of their rise to fame in the 80s. I know I had this album, but I did not listen to it as much as their later albums. I find it odd that they have been recording music all these years and yet I have not heard about any of it. I hate that I can be a fickle fan at times. My musical taste has changed throughout my life. I will listen to older music, but I often listen to modern music that is good. I do not listen to the radio.
I really wanted to love this album, but I did not love it. It is okay. Unfortunately, none of the songs stuck out much. Everything sort of droned on and on. The best song for me was “Hunter and the Hunted“. It has a bit of feeling in it. I think I could like it more after a couple times of hearing it. Maybe the whole album is the type that needs a couple of listening, but I do not have time for it now. Oddly, this album has been an influence on U2 and others. 6/10.
P.S. Okay, it gets better. I have to add one more song “Glittering Prize“.
