Tom Waits has already been on the list two times so I really do not have much to say. I have never heard of his album Swordfishtrombones. I wonder if he will be good in the experimental rock genre.
I accidentally listened to Waits’ album with Crystal Gayle One From the Heart. It is a soundtrack for the film of the same name. Her voice is beautiful in contrast to his gruff vocals. Sort of like beauty and the beast. It is an odd pairing that I would never expect to have ever happened.
I think I liked “Shore Leave“, “Town with No Cheer” and “Soldier’s Things“. I like the latter because that is where Waits sings in torch song style that suits his voice and he emotes sadness that can be felt in the bones.
This album is so different than I expected from the previous albums on the list. There are sounds and bizarre lyrics throughout. I could not grasp onto individual songs, but as a whole the album is interesting. Many of the songs are short, which is good when it feels too strange it ends. I think this is an album that needs multiple listenings. 7/10.
