Double Nickels On The Dime was the third album from punk band Minutemen. They released another album in 1985 and singer and guitarist D. Boon died in an accident so it was the end of the band. The album is a double album containing 45 songs and the songs are divided into sides for each of the three band members and the fourth side is for Chaff, which I assume means the rubbish or leftovers. There is only one song over 3 minutes.
Two songs stuck out the most “History Lesson – Part II” and “Do You Want New Wave or Do You Want the Truth?“. I think the other songs could grow on me if I spent a lot of time listening to the album again.
As I listened to the album I kept thinking about the Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ music, especially on the first side and again in the end. I found it hard to decide about this album. The plus side is that the songs are short, but that is the negative side too. I could not get invested in the song because they ended too quickly. I think I would listen it again, but it is way too long so I would listen to one side and move on. 7/10.
