Water From An Ancient Well is a jazz album from South African pianist and composer Abdullah Ibrahim. I am not excited to hear another jazz album. I grew up with jazz all around me. I have always preferred it live over recorded.
As the first song started I was not impressed. It sounded like what I would hear in New Orleans as a kid. Maybe in Europe this was all they could get.
Overall, it is not a bad album. I find it generic, but as I stated I grew up with jazz. This type of jazz seems bland after all the jazz that was introduced in the 60s and 70s. This album should be removed for something like Missing Persons or INXS. 5/10.
