Def Leppard was one of my favourite bands of the 80s. In 1987 they released Hysteria, one of the best albums of the 80s. This album had so many hits singles that I lost count of them. This is the product of a great band, hard work and the talented producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange. The album took three years to make because tragedy continually plagued the band. One of the most tragic things was their drummer Rick Allen lost his left arm in an automobile accident. He has always stood out to me because he is still drumming. I think I went to see them on this tour, but the memory is very fuzzy. I was probably high.
One of their best song, at least for me is “Hysteria”. The music reminds me of love or what I think love sounds like.
One of my friends during the year of 1987 was Imre Kollath. We worked together in a restaurant. He was such a good friend. One day he told he that he works like an enema. I did a double take. I asked him to repeat it, then finally I asked him to spell it. “Oh, you said animal.” I will never forget that moment. In fact, when I hear “Animal” I think of Imre.
I think my least favourite song is “Don’t Shoot Shotgun”. I can easily listen to all the other songs over and over. Every song is a banger on this album. Some of my other favourites are “Love Bites“, “Love and Affection“, “Rocket”, and “Pour Some Sugar on Me”.
Overall, this album is so freaking amazing. I sort of forgot it for all these years. I am happy to rediscover it. They were incredible. I wonder if they are still any good. Perhaps I will have to find out. 10/10.
