#602 Ladysmith Black Mambazo – Shaka Zulu

Ladysmith Black Mambazo became known to American audiences after playing on Paul Simon’s Graceland album. If you remember my review for it, then you know I hate Afrikan music. Shaka Zulu was a re-recording of their previous hit songs. One weird bit is the name suggest it is a woman, but in fact, it is a South African male choral group.

Oh no. What the heck is the clicking sound? Is that their language or do they click when they sing? I noticed it in the first song “Unomathemba“, then a worse smacking in the second one “Hello My Baby“.

If you are looking for some gospel music in another language, then this album is for you. I thought the man’s singing was good, but I hated the occasional smacking noise. Luckily, it is not as irritating as most Afrikan music. If the clicking noises were removed I would have liked this a lot. 3/10.
