Swedish rapper Neneh Cherry‘s Raw Like Sushi album was released in 1989. I remember her hit song. I thought it was okay, but not enough to listen to the whole album. Cherry is the stepdaughter of American jazz musician Don Cherry.
The only song that I recognise on this album is the hit “Buffalo Stance“. It was not that great of a song. In my opinion, it has not aged well.
I am not sure that I would call this a great album even in 1989. But whatever. It does have the new jack swing which was a popular sound mid-80s. I think Janet Jackson‘s Control would have been the better choice for the list. Cherry is okay, but if I never heard this album I would not feel that I missed anything. 5/10.
