British group Soul II Soul created Platinum in the U.S.A. with their debut album Club Classics Vol. One. I actually bought this album in 1989. I really liked it for the hit songs. As of today I do not remember the rest of the album so it will be interesting to hear it again 30 years later.
“Keep on Movin’” featuring Caron Wheeler was my favourite song on the album. My second favourite was “Back to Life (However Do You Want Me)” also featuring Wheeler. I prefer the remix over the acapella version. “Jazzie’s Groove” is okay. Wheeler left the group after this album to pursue a solo career, but I think she jumped the gun on it. The group and she suffered for it. Neither of them were as popular. Unfortunately, Do’reen paled in comparison as a singer.
Overall, I feel that the album was an epic failure. It feels that they were able to create a couple of hit songs and the rest is filler. 5/10.
