My Bloody Valentine‘s Loveless is their second studio album and it is the English-Irish band’s second album on the list of 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. I know my friend Eric had this album. I remember seeing the cover. I wonder if I will remember listening to it with him. This is considered the bands magnum opus and one of the best albums of the 90s. This is the year of shoegazing from the appearance of the last album and this one.
Trivia: The record company was upset over the album taking over two years to produce and vocalist/guitarist Kevin Shields was too difficult to work with so they dropped the band from the label. MBV could not make their second album so they disbanded in 1997. They returned in 2013.
I was only half way through the album when I thought this is an amazing work of art and I wondered why I did not listen to sooner. Eric had really great taste in my music. I am not sure what I was thinking back then. I was probably living in my dream world so I did not always hear and see what was going on around me. I did not think he would stop being friends with me, but he did. I have rotten luck finding a best friend. I will die without one. My life is filled with sadness.
I suggest that you listen to the whole album. It is a masterpiece. I am not sure if I can even choose a song that I like the best. Maybe “I Only Said” is the best one, but that might change later. 10/10.
