#737 The Auteurs – New Wave

The Auteurs is a band I have heard of, but only due to one collaboration album The Auteurs vs. μ-Ziq. It was an electronic album. New Wave was the British alternative rock band’s debut album. They did not survive as a band past 1999.

I am not going to waste too much time because I have gotten behind on my goal to complete 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. I think this album is good, but it would have been better if I had not heard Suede and Blur more during this time period. The album is one of those albums that you can put on and sort of forget it is playing. It fades into the back of the thoughts that might be overwhelming your life at the moment.

Luke Haines vocals are pleasant, maybe too pleasant. I think he could use a little more edge if he is going to grab my attentions. The best songs on the album are “Show Girl“, “Junk Shop Clothes“, and “Don’t Trust the Stars“, yet all the songs are easy to listen to at least once or twice. 7/10.
