Nirvana‘s final album In Utero was released in 1993. I was a fan of theirs. I even saw them in concert before the end of the year. I think this album was harder and rawer than their previous album Nevermind. I wonder how they would sound today if Kurt Cobain had not killed himself in 1994, two days after my birthday.
I like this album a lot, but it did not have the impact on me that Nevermind had. I think it is a great follow-up, but at time I think I was moving toward dance sounds of the 90s.
My favourite songs were “Heart-Shaped Box“, “Rape Me“, “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle“, “Dumb“, and “All Apologies“.
I can relate to Cobain’s life as a kid. He had some struggles that we have in common. The difference is that I wanted my mother to leave her husband. I hated him. If I were wiser then I would have murdered him. I would not have felt any guilt. The album is great, but not quite as great as Nevermind. 9.5/10.
Just imagine how popular Pearl Jam would be if Eddie Vedder had died…
If you want to know what Nirvana would sound like, just listen to Foo Fighters.
Cobain’s voice is different than Dave Grohl’s vocals. I like both, but I doubt they could have survived. I am sure Grohl wanted to do more than Nirvana.
Pearl Jam? Yuck.
