I was a fan of Pet Shop Boys‘ earlier music, but dare I say they became too gay for me. I think Very was the last album I bought of theirs. I have not heard much from them since this album. I was a fan of synth-pop and techno, which I felt other bands, such as Erasure, Depeche Mode, and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark did better.
My favourite songs were “Can You Forgive Her?”, “I Wouldn’t Normally Do This Kind of Thing“, “Liberation”
I think my biggest reason for not following Pet Shop Boys is due to Neil Tennant’s voice. It is great on some songs and not so great on others. Maybe he is signing too high and it strains his vocals. After listening to the album twice through, I realised that I did not like their music on this album. 6/10.
