I never realised that there are so many bands and artists I have never heard one song from, such as Girls Against Boys. I wonder how I missed so much music. I have never heard of their second album Venus Luxure No. 1 Baby. It is strange because I used to frequent music shops and I would look at every cd in the shop. I do not know much about post-hardcore as a genre. I think I never listened to hardcore because it sounded too hard.
The first song “In Like Flynn” grabbed me right away. I am surprised that I missed this album. I had the wrong friends at this stage of life. Actually, that is not true. Eric was still my best friend, but other friendships had started to fall apart or had fallen apart. One of my other best friends was Dave Bronson, but he disappeared from my life. I heard he and some girl got pregnant so he dropped me. I am not sure why. I found him briefly years later and he told me we no longer had anything in common. It was a strange statement since we had not really spoken in years. David is part of my loop, which I cannot repair or change now. I long to go back to that time and do things a bit differently. I think if I had known all these friends would have ended, then I would have been more likely to throw caution to the wind.
I think the album is great. I like quite a few songs, especially “Go Be Delighted“, “Bulletproof Cupid“, “Get Down”, and and “Seven Seas”. I recommend this album to anyone who likes to rock out a bit. Remember it is post-hardcore, not hardcore. 8.9/10.
