#872 Mercury Rev – Deserter’s Songs

Mercury Rev? I have never heard anything from them, at least I believe that is true. They released their fourth album Deserter’s Songs in 1998. The band expected it to be their last one, but as chance would have it their fate changed. They found fame mostly in the UK and Europe, and a small following in their native homeland USA. Leader singer Jonathan Donahue was also a member of The Flaming Lips.

I liked almost every song on the album, except “The Happy End (The Drunk Room)”. It did not appeal to me.

Overall, I recommend this album if you like alternative rock and chamber pop. I found it to be a bit bizarre, but I connected with it anyway. This is definitely one of the more bizarre groups on the list, but worth listening to. 9/10.
