#903 Doves – Lost Souls

Welcome to the year 2000. We have survived the fear of Y2K. Our first band on the list of 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die is Doves. Their debut album Lost Souls was released on my birthday April 3. This is the year I came out of hibernation from my sabbatical, of sorts, from listening to the kind of music I love. I was on a spiritual journey, but I decided I did not need to stop listening to great music in the 2000. When I get to the album that changed my thinking I will let you. I am excited again about listening to the list. I did not enjoy a lot of the the later 90s music. I have heard this album before.

I actually am not sure if this is the album I thought it was going to be. Yet, I really liked it. The British do make some good music. Maybe having bad teeth is the trick. I wish I had better teeth too. I digress.

Some of my favourite songs are “The Cedar Room” “A House”, “Sea Song”, and almost all the others song. I found that I liked some of them better on the second listening. “Melody Calls” is my least favourite. I am extremely picky about songs with names in them.

Overall, this album has everything going for it. It has some of my favourite genres, such as indie rock, dream pop, shoegazing, space rock, and more. 9.5/10.
