#908 Emmylou Harris – Red Dirt Girl

Emmylou Harris again? Why? Red Dirt Girl was her resurgence into the charts after her kiss successful 90s era. This album was a departure for her as a songwriter. She wrote or co-wrote all the songs, except “One Big Love”. This album marks Harris’ final appearance on the 1001 Albums…. I have give all previous albums a six. Can this be the one to score higher? Probably not. All the white female folks singers seem the same to me.

Surprisingly, there are some good songs in this album. Harris sounds much more modern on this album than on her previous ones on the list of 1001 Albums… I like “Bang the Drum Slowly“, “J’Ai Fait Tout”, “One Big Love”, “Boy from Tupelo”, “The Pearl”, “Tragedy”, and “Michelangelo”.

Overall, this album is great. Americana has a different feeling than country music. I am extremely pleased that it was not as bad as I thought it would be. Maybe she should have written more of her lyrics. It may have been that my heart was heavy while listening to it too. I was deeply depressed. I feel so unloved. 8/10.
