#915 PJ Harvey – Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea

Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea is PJ Harvey’s third album on the list of 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. I liked second album To Bring You My Love  better than the first one Rid of Me on the list; I even gave it an 8. Harvey released her fifth studio album about her love of New York City in 2000 almost one year before September 11.

As I listened to the first five songs, I was surprised that I liked what I was hearing. It had more colours than her previous works on the list. My favourites are “Big Exit”, “One Line”, “The Whores Hustle and the Hustlers Whore”, and “A Place Called Home”. Of course, all three songs featuring Thom Yorke are good, but I prefer “This Mess We’re In”.

Saddest song is “Horses in My Dreams“.

Overall, this is a great album from Harvey. I might have become a fan. I will have to listen to her other albums following this one. Her voice can be beautiful and rough, but it always feels raw. 9.5/10.
