#916 Erykah Badu – Mama’s Gun

If your name is Erica, then why would you change it to Erykah? That is what the artist known as Erykah Badu did. Sorry, but that is just dumb. Mama’s Gun is Badu’s second studio album. I have not listened to this album. I grew up with soul music, but I seemed to lost a taste for it later in life, especially when rap and hip hop integrated with it. I miss the soul of the 60s and 70s. I might like this album because it is classified as neo soul.

Well, I was wrong. I did not like this album at all. I wish she had cut some of the songs time. “Kiss Me on My Neck (Hesi)” is just over 5 minutes, but it felt like twenty minutes to me.

I hated her voice, although it is not as horrible as Joan Baez. I also felt the repetitive lyrics did not help her at all. It started to make me angry. I almost like a couple of songs, but her voice would change back to irritating. I would skip this unless you like whiny vocals. 2/10.
