#933 Ryan Adams – Gold

Ryan Adams is back with his second album on the list and his second studio album in his career: Gold. As you may know I hate country music, but Adams is not really country. He is rock and alternative country. Some critics have classified him as Americana, which is a blend of different genres.

My favourite songs are “La Cienega Just Smiled”, “When the Stars Go Blue“, “Nobody Girl”, and “Harder Now That It’s Over”.

When the Stars Go Blue” was my first introduction to Adams. Had not realized that it has been recorded by a few other artists who made it into a hit. I do not like the other versions at all. He knows how to write beautiful songs and sing them beautifully.

Where do you go when you’re lonely?
Where do you go when you’re blue?
Where do you go when you’re lonely?
I’ll follow you
When the stars go blue
Stars go blue
Stars go blue
Stars go blue

Overall, I really liked this album. Adams is a good singer and a greater songwriter. Luckily, he does not go too far in the country territory. There is a good mix of upbeat and melancholy ballads to satisfy me. 9.5/10.
