#955 Bruce Springsteen – The Rising

Bruce Springsteen. The Boss. What exactly is he the boss of? I was excited other another album from him. I did not like his music while I was growing up, but in the recent years it all changed. Maybe his music is for older people. The Rising is the twelfth album from Springsteen. I think his appeal is that he sings honestly from the soul. He looks like the redneck next door to anyone who is working class in the USA, yet he is socially aware of his world. The Rising is his reflections during the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

This album has some beautiful songs, such as “You’re Missing“, “Paradise”, “Nothing Man”, “Empty Sky”, “The Fuse”, and “My City of Ruins”, which is perfect for today with all the rioting and destruction happening. Also you can hear some of Springsteen’s upbeat tunes like “Let’s Be Friends (Skin to Skin)”, “The Rising”, “Lonesome Day”, and “Waitin’ on a Sunny Day”.

This was a big comeback for Springsteen. He has not recorded an album in seven years and he had not had a number one album since Tunnel of Love in 1987. I agree it is a real great album. At times, I feel it wanders a bit, but I am okay with his wandering. 10/10.
