Permission to Land is the debut album for British glam rock band The Darkness. It was a critical and chart selling success. I have never heard of them. In 2003, I was in Debrecen and I was not in touch with much music, except for some local bands.
After listening to the whole album, I have to wonder why it is popular. I know the song “I Believe in a Thing Called Love“. I could not place where I had heard it so I looked it up. Shayne Ward was an X Factor contestant in 2005 and he covered. I believe others have covered it on the series too.
My favourite song on the album is “Love Is Only a Feeling“. It is a sweet power ballad. Why do I love power ballads from hard rock groups?
Overall, it was an okay album, but I did not feel it lent anything new to glam metal or hard rock. I think the British are too nostalgic at times. 5/10.
