#967 Dizzee Rascal – Boy in da Corner

Dizzee Rascal is another artist in the long line of artists I have never heard of until today. Boy in da Corner was his debut album and it was the beginning of worldwide spread of the genre known as grime. Grime is a genre of electronic music that emerged in London in the early 2000s, which has lyrics that depict gritty urban life of the emcees. The genre has died out, but Dizzee Rascal has an album scheduled for release in 2020. Good luck with that.

Oddly, I really like grime music. I am not a fan of rap, but it is not as irritating with grime as the music. Maybe I dislike hip hop.

Some of the best songs are “I Luv U”, “Fix Up, Look Sharp” (which samples “The Big Beat”, performed by Billy Squier), “Cut ‘Em Off”, and the rest of the album.

Overall, I really like the chaotic music. The lyrics can be a bit hard to understand for me. The music overpowers it. I think the music is the star and the lyrics are the co-star. Really listen to the music. 8/10.
