#982 The Icarus Line – Penance Soiree

Another band in the long line of bands that I have never heard of is The Icarus Line. I guess post-hardcore is not a genre that I have listened to much. They released their second album Penance Soiree is 2004. This was the last album to feature co-founder and guitarist Aaron North. He suffered a nervous breakdown and left the music business in 2008.

I would not say any of the songs are bad. I actually thought they were okay, but I do not understand why this album is on the list. I hear anything new or different. The music is raw, but not as raw as the vocals. I am reminded of Soundgarden and The Jesus and Mary Chain, a bit, but also other bands from that time period.

Listen to “Up Against the Wall Motherfuckers”, “Kiss Like Lizards”, “Getting Bright at Night”, and “Spike Island”. I guess I like the album more than I thought I did. It was a grower. 7.5/10.
