Franz Ferdinand released their self-titled debut in 2004. It was a critical and commercial success for the new band. They were part of the post-punk revival in the early 2000s, in fact, one of the more popular bands of the genre.
Trivia: The band is named after Archduke Franz Ferdinand Carl Ludwig Joseph Maria of Austria. He was the cause of WWI.
Of course, we all know the hit song “Take Me Out“. It is still one of my favourite songs. I love the opening guitar music to it. It is one of the best anthemic songs to drive really fast to on the highway at night.
Other songs I really like are “The Dark of the Matinée“, “This Fire”, and the rest of the album. The only song that I am not fond of is “Jacqueline”. As some may remember, I do not like songs with girl’s names. It is rare that I like one with any name.
Overall, this is a nearly perfect album. I like the genres represented Indie rock, post-punk revival, and dance-punk. Lead singer Alex Kapranos has a perfect voice for this type of music. I highly recommend it. 10/10.
