#1002 DeVotchKa – How It Ends

DeVotchKa is a band that I feel like I have heard of, but I cannot be sure why. It looks like a Russian word. I will listen to it before I read about them. The album is How It Ends, which is the bands fourth album.

Okay, I was right, it is the Russian word devochka (девочка), meaning “girl”.

The first song “You Love Me” was extremely catchy to me. I love the vocals and the music. It is so dreamy. “Charlotte Mittnacht (The Fabulous Destiny of…)” reminds me of some of my favourite French songs. My other favourites are “Twenty-Six Temptations”, “How It Ends (which is below in video), “This Place Is Haunted”, and the haunting “Dearly Departed”.

The title song has been featured in many television series, films, and even a German Nutella commercial. Watch the video below.

Overall, this is an excellent album. Who knew that a small band from Denver would be on the list? I realised that I have seen their name in emails from local venues I watch to see who is playing. I liked almost every song. I cannot believe their is a band playing gypsy punk in Colorado. 9/10.
