Sufjan Stevens is an artist I have heard of and I have heard his music. Unfortunately, not as much as I would like, but I will be able to change that today. Stevens fifth studio album is Illinois sometimes styled Sufjan Stevens Invites You To: Come On Feel the ILLINOISE. I guess he has a sense of humour. Besides the theme of the state, Stevens writes about Christianity, prayers, and questions about God not healing a loved one.
I found it hard to separate the songs on this album, after all it is a concept album. The titles are extremely long. That is just a warning. I like the first song “Concerning the UFO Sighting near Highland, Illinois”. It really relaxed me. I also liked “Jacksonville”, “Go! Chicago! Go! Yeah!”, “Casimir Pulaski Day”, “The Man of Metropolis Steals Our Hearts”, and the whole rest of the album.
Overall, this is a terrific album. It is definitely a work of art. I just read that Stevens released a new album. I will have to check it out. I recommend this album for anyone who likes indie rock, baroque pop, and experimental music. If someone writes an album about my life story, then I hope it will be Sufjan Stevens. 10/10.
