So many people have told me to listen to Frank Ocean, but I know more about him from TikTok music. channel ORANGE is his debut album. He had previously been a music ghostwriter. I thought those days were over. The whole business of ghostwriters is weird and terrible for the person who actually did the writing. Ocean grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana and that kind of explains why his music is eclectic with sounds of jazz, R&B, and funk.
My favourite songs are “Super Rich Kids” featuring Earl Sweatshirt, “Sierra Leone”, “Lost”, “Bad Religion”, and the whole album, except “Monks”. I did not really like that song.
Overall, most of the songs are short, but incredibly well crafted. There are threads of many artists before Ocean, especially the greatest Prince. Prince was defiantly an influence on Ocean. 10/10.
