Thundercat (Stephen Lee Bruner) has quite the resume already at 36 years old. He has played with crossover thrash band Suicidal Tendencies, Kendrick Lamar, Erykah Badu and many others. Drunk is his third studio album.
Whenever I read something like “so and so identifies as a Christian” I look at what they are producing in their art and I usually wonder if they read their Bible. Thundercat makes me wonder it too. In the song “Captain Stupido” his lyrics are a bit weird
“I feel weird
Comb your beard, brush your teeth
Still feel weird
Beat your meat, go to sleep”.
I did not really like any of the songs. They all sound like they came directly out of the 70s.
Overall, if you like cool jazz, soft rock, or funk music of the 70s, then this is your album. There is even an appearance from Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald, but I felt it did not do anything to make the music modern. 5/10.
