Favourite Song

Day 60: “What’s your all time favorite song?”

As if I can answer this question.

Hours later I still cannot answer it. I wrote about a lot of great songs yesterday so look at those.

Actually, I forgot to mention some important artists in my life. Stevie Nicks and Tori Amos were important parts of my life. Their music infected my heart when I needed it the most.

I have always loved Stevie Nicks’s poetic verses from the first time I heard her Fleetwood Mac songs. I think my favourite song is “Landslide“. It has the most relatable lyrics at any stage of life.

“I took my love, I took it down
I climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow-covered hills
‘Til the landslide brought me downOh, mirror in the sky
What is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changin’ ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?Well, I’ve been afraid of changin’
‘Cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I’m getting older too”

Stevie Nicks has some many songs that I have loved, especially “If Anyone Falls”, “Beauty and the Beast”, Talk to Me”, “Silver Springs”, “Talk to Me”, etc.

Tori Amos is in a different category. As strange as some of Nicks’s lyrics can be, Amos has the most bizarre lyrics, but they still speak to me. I instantly become transported to another time in life. I think she has the most depressing lyrics for me. I go back to a time when I felt love, but never felt loved. “Hey Jupiter” is one of the saddest songs ever.

I am torn on which Amos song I like the best. I like so many of them. “Tear In Your Hand” is one of the most important ones in my life. The lyrics kill me still today.

“Maybe I ain’t used to maybes
Smashing in a cold room cutting my hands up
Every time I touch you
Maybe maybe it’s time to wave goodbye now
Time to wave goodbye now
Caught a ride with the moon
I know I know you well well better than I used to
Haze all clouded up my mind
In the daze of the why it could’ve never been
So you say and I say you know you’re full of wish
And your baby, baby, baby, babies
I tell you there are pieces of me you’ve never seen
Maybe she’s just pieces of me you’ve never seen well.”
