Current Favourites

Day 68: “What are your current favorite songs?”

I have been disappointed in a lot of music lately. I kind of got stuck in the past a bit by doing the 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You DIe. I go through the weekly new song on Spotify, but only a few songs are not rap and hip-hop. I really think music needs something new.

I discovered Duncan Laurence recently and I really like his 2020 album Small Town Boy. He was the winner of Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with the song “Arcade” and it gave the Netherlands its first Eurovision win since 1975. The album is simply mellow pop, but I like the passion in Laurence’s vocals.

Other bands/songs I am enjoying at the moment are The Paper Kites new song “Climb On Your Tears”, Mt. Joy’s “Bug Eyes”, Yoke Lore’s “Fade Away” and a few other songs, Mogwai’s As the Love Continues, and Ella Henderson x Tom Grennan’s “Let’s Go Home Together”.

  1. Tom Grennan’s second album has come out recently – maybe worth a listen? Also, I always find gems in my discover weekly if I’m feeling lost. If you like the likes of lo-fi work for your Sunday morning, I’d recommend giving Powfu a listen 💥

    1. I will check both artist out. Thank you for the suggestions. I did find a song last night that I connected to on the first listening. It is Night Beats – New Day.
