Inspirational Song

Day 75: ‘What song inspires you the most?”

This is a subjective question. What do you mean by inspires me? Inspires to do something good? Inspires me to do something dangerous? Or inspires me to make a life decision? I guess I should choose one.

One of the most inspirational song for me, especially later in life, is “Don’t Dream It’s Over” by Crowded House. I thought I would never live past thirty, but I have and I did not have any dreams for the rest of my life. I died, but I was still breathing.

As a child it might have been “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin. My mother played it all the time. I wonder what she thought when she listened to it. Did she think she could buy the stairway to heaven? Did she know there are two paths you can go by? Maybe she thought there’s still time to change the road you’re on, but she feared it. I will never know.

Other songs that have inspired me at some point in life are “What a Feeling” – Irene Cara, “Walking on Sunshine” – Katrina and the Waves, Katy Perry’s “Firework”, “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus, “Man in the Mirror” – Michael Jackson, “Hero” – Mariah Carey, “Believe” by Cher, and probably many others.

Beautiful Day by U2 is one of the best songs for a real pump up when you need something to change your mood. I have always want to learn to love, but I felt like a hopeless case. It was a beautiful day so don’t let it get away. Some days I just need to be reminded.

Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing came to me when I needed it. The line “Some will win, Some will lose, Some were born to sing the blues, Oh, the movie never ends, It goes on and on, and on, and on” is my life story. I often feel that I am living in a film or a situation comedy and everyone else are guest stars, perhaps weekly guest. Some of the guest stay longer than others, but eventually they all leave. I will lose.

David Bowie’s Heroes is one of the most inspirational songs because I always wanted a hero and I wanted to be someone’s hero. Even just for one day.

Honestly, I cannot choose one song. I have many songs for different moods. Sometimes I just want to dance so I will listen to No Doubt’s Push And Shove and I will dance myself into a better space. There is as song for everything.

  1. I can’t possibly think of one or even five that inspire me. I would have to make a playlist haha – from the angst punky rock I listened to when I was younger to the more relaxing ambient lo-fi music of today where I relax, it’d be hard for me to narrow it down!
